Aquathlon (Swim 750m, Run 5k)
Aquabike (Swim 750m, Bike 20k)

2) The Bike Course
The Sprint Triathlon is now a CARIFTA qualifier, so we had to shorten the bike route to meet the qualifying distances. It will be 20km instead of 25km
The bike course will be the same for Sprint, Aquabike, Duathlon
Exit Taino Beach from the eastern entrance
LEFT on West Beach Drive
Follow West Beach Drive over a small bridge to the intersection
Turn RIGHT at the intersection (West Beach Drive and Midshipman)
Follow Midshipman to the roundabout, and follow the road that will naturally curve to the left
Continue to the next roundabout, go all around it, and come back to the previous roundabout, back to Midshipman
LEFT at the next intersection towards West Beach Drive, over the small bridge back to Taino Beach
Return to the transition area will be through the same entrance as the exit at the start.
RACE DAY TIPS
Open Water Swim Tips
Warm-up is key. Include a short easy jog of 5 minutes and a full body dynamic stretch routine. Next, do a 5-minute easy warm-up swim focusing on blowing your bubbles, the feel of the water, and your horizontal body position.
Check your goggles for fit so they do not leak and fog on warm-up.
Wear goggles under your cap to protect them from getting knocked off.
Know the current and use it to help you.
Know the buoy placement. Understand the course and what landmark you will site to get back to beach.
Line up to the right of the pack in the swim and near the back if slower or get out front if you are strong enough to be aggressive and don’t mind the crowd.
Relax, blow your bubbles. Sight every so often with alligator eyes keeping your nose in the water as you sight.
On the return to the beach, look for the Taino Tower to sight.
Once out of the water, as you are running to transition, remove your goggles, cap & start looking for the landmark to find your bike in transition.
Bike Tips
Be sure your tires are pumped up and your bike is in good operating condition.
Helmets are mandatory and must be strapped on your head at all times while bike is in your hands
No Riding in Transition. Your rear wheel must cross the Mount line before you can get on the bike.
Ride on the far left unless safety of the road dictates otherwise.
Pass on the right of the cyclist in front of you by politely calling out “on your right”
Keep three bike lengths between your front wheel and the cyclist’s rear wheel in front of you.
Complete your pass within 15 seconds.
Always look ahead 20-30 yards ahead and anticipate the road and other cyclists.
Never ever ever ever look back.
If passed, you must be sure to completely be out of the 3 bike length safety zone.
When entering transition, you must get off the bike before you cross the Dismount Line
Run Tips
Please wear your race bib, facing forward at all times.
Maintain good posture, looking ahead 20 yards, keep chin up, chest out, shoulders back, and relax so your shoulder blades imaging them sliding down your back.
Your arms set the tempo of your legs. Keep elbows bent at 90 degrees, pumping your arms from your chest to the front of your hips and pretend you are carrying potato chips to keep hands relaxed.
As you inhale, stick your tummy out to use your diaphragm and get the most oxygen possible. *Breathe in and out your nose in an effort to pace yourself.
Smile. It’s science. When you smile you release the “feel good” hormone and feel better.
Enjoy every breath, stroke, and stride. Take in the beauty of our island, the friendly support of our volunteers, & camaraderie of fellow racers.
Be grateful you are healthy and able to push your body as you do.
